HAMMAM AT HOME

We don't all have the opportunity to visit a traditional hammam regularly. Don't worry, we offer you the chance to recreate the experience at home!

Recurrence

Once a week, or once every two weeks for the most sensitive skin types.

You will need...

black soap, kessa mitt or exfoliating salts, ghassoul, argan oil or another vegetable oil suitable for body hydration, or massage oil, or body lotion, facial care oil, or cream

STEPS

1. Heat up your bathroom in order to keep your skin warm throughout the entire hammam.

2. Rinse the entire body and hair with very hot water.

3. Once the body is well warmed up (ideally wait about 10 to 15 minutes, so that the pores are well dilated), apply the black soap in a thin layer over the entire body, avoiding mucous membranes.

4. Leave on for about 10 minutes, making sure the room remains warm and humid throughout.

5. Rinse thoroughly.

6. Exfoliate the body using a kessa mitt or scented exfoliating salts, starting from the lower body and working upward, using small circular movements. The pressure applied will vary depending on the sensitivity of the skin.

7. Rinse thoroughly.

8. Apply the ghassoul, previously mixed with orange blossom water (or plain water), evenly over the entire body, face and hair. Rub the scalp to apply the ghassoul uniformly onto it.

9. Leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing.

10. Be careful to thoroughly brush the scalp to completely remove the ghassoul. Indeed, if any residue remains, it will continue to absorb impurities and sebum, and may eventually dry out the scalp and hair, and sometimes even cause dandruff.

11. It is not necessary to apply a shower gel or shampoo, but a conditioner can be applied.

12. After the "hammam", don't forget to soothe and moisturize the skin of the body and face using a vegetable oil, a massage oil, or a body lotion, to be applied on still damp skin!
